The Ajanta, Ellora & Shirdi Escape

Day 1: Arrival and Local Sights

Arrive in the historic city of Aurangabad and transfer to your hotel to settle in and find your bearings. Once you have freshened up, head over to Bibi Ka Maqbara, a stunning 17th-century monument that is often called the Taj of the Deccan because of its beautiful white marble and grand domes. From there, take a short trip to Panchakki to see an ancient underground water channel that still powers a historic flour mill today. If you have extra time, a quick hike up to the Aurangabad Caves offers a fantastic view of the city skyline as the sun begins to set. End your evening by exploring the local markets for traditional Paithani silk or enjoying a quiet dinner before heading back to your hotel for a restful night.

Day 2: Exploring Ajanta Caves

Start your morning with a hearty breakfast before heading out on a scenic two-hour drive through the rural landscape to reach the world-famous Ajanta Caves. These 29 caves are hidden inside a horseshoe-shaped valley and are home to some of the most beautiful ancient paintings and stone carvings in existence. As you walk through the dimly lit halls, you will see detailed murals that have kept their vibrant colors for over two thousand years. Take your time to appreciate the peaceful atmosphere and the incredible stories of the Buddha depicted on the walls. Day 3: Ellora Caves and Travel to Shirdi

After checking out of your hotel, make the short trip to the Ellora Caves, a massive site where three different religions—Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism—coexist in stone. You will be amazed by the Kailasa Temple, which is a giant multi-story structure carved entirely out of a single mountain from the top down. Walk through the giant courtyards and look closely at the thousands of tiny sculptures that decorate every inch of the rock walls. Once you have finished your tour, begin your journey toward the sacred town of Shirdi, passing through small villages and green fields. Arrive in Shirdi by evening, check into your hotel, and take a walk through the town to feel the deep devotion and calm energy that surrounds the temple area.

Day 4: Shirdi Temple and Departure

Wake up early to visit the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, a place where thousands of people gather to find spiritual peace and offer their prayers. The morning air is filled with chants and a sense of calm as you visit the Samadhi Mandir to pay your respects at the final resting place of the saint. Spend some time sitting quietly in the temple complex or visit the holy neem tree and the old mosque of Dwarkamai where Sai Baba spent much of his life. After soaking in the spiritual vibes, return to your hotel to enjoy a final breakfast and finish your packing.
